The cream may not: be the exact treatment for that fungus that caused the ringworm. This happens fairly often. As there is seldom a way of knowing what the fungus is weak to (outside of doing a biopsy and culturing that for 6 weeks), the doctor has to use the most common antifungal treatment, and that is usually clotrimazole or itraconazole. And there are ringworm bugs that are resistant to either.

May not B ringworm: Ringworm or what appears to be ringworm is usually treated without confirmatory fungal culture or scraping. There are other skin issues like granuloma annulare or guttate psoriasis that can mimic ringworm. If a standard treatment does not work, it either is wrong, or the initial diagnosis may be also.A re-check is worthwhile. This happens to all of us.
