How would i know if i had repressed memories? what do i do if a traumatizing memory resurfaces and psychologically damages me?

Think of it this way: Let's say you do have repressed memories. Since you survived the original trauma, you can survive the memories, in a safe, nonjudgmental environment, known as the therapist's consulting room. In, believe it or not, you're the one in control of just how much intensity you can tolerate.
