Inflamed tonsils: The inflammation in your tonsils might not actually be an infection. It could be from something else like allergies or even reflux. Best to have it checked out by an ENT specialist.

Get re-checked: If it has been more than 72 hours since you began antibiotics, get re-checked. The antibiotic is not working for some reason and you may need another. Or, if you did not have culture-proven strep throat, something else might be causing your symptoms, like mono. You can even have both strep and mono at the same time!
