Viral URI?: How was strep throat confirmed? Over 90% of throat infections are viral, which do not respond to antibiotics. Strep is less common at your age and with presence of a cough. Even with confirmed strep it is possible to have other symptoms linger. A Z-pack is also not the antibiotic of choice, and should only be used in patients with penicillin allergy. Try an OTC cough medicine and decongestant,
