Traumatized nerves: It is possible to press hard enough to overstimulate a nerve bundle and cause temporary numbness. This happens when you hit the funny bone (ulnar nerve) hard and feel pain and numbness in your hand for a long time. Alcoholics also pass out on their elbows, and overnight can stay in the same position long enough to cause paralysis of that arm for a day or two. It should get better by tomorrow.
