Drink Sparingly: Atenolol is almost completely removed by the kidney, Alcohol is detoxified by the liver(good). One problem is atenolol is really not a 24 hour medication (18-20hours), thus because I presume you are drinking when your atenolol is at a low level, drinking a great deal may increase the chance of abnormal heart beats. It is best not to drink too much. I put patients on 1/2 their atenolol twice a day
