Time: As with most all exercises, you can overuse your hand and fingers with over-exercise. This point is different for all individuals. It sounds like your hand muscles are strained and cramp easily with flexion. Gently massage and move/wiggle them. Encourage motion without any resistance. I predict your hands will feel normal within a few days. If not, contact your doctor. Best wishes:)
