Swelling/pain: Return to your treating Dentist or (hopefully) Orthodontic Specialist immediately. May be irritation from your braces rubbing, a tooth infection, gum infection, or other cause. Take NSAIDs as directed on package until you can be examined.

Call your dentist!: Braces, even newly placed braces should not hurt that much and should not cause you jaw to swell. Get an emergency appointment to see your dentist. It the meanwlile rinse with salt water. Mix a half teaspoon of salt in a half a glass of warm (not hot) water. Repeat every 4 hours until you see the dentist.
