See ophthalmologist: The vitreous humor is the gel like substance that makes up the posterior chamber of the eye which is behind the lens. As individuals age the gel consistency liquifies in the center. Small pieces of the gel vitreous can break off and float in the liquid center. You should see an ophthalmologist as soon as possible because of the discomfort in your eyes. You may be having a vitreous detachment.
