Yes: If the infection never resolved completly the purulent exudate could buid up and the thin incomplet healing of the rum can easily rupture.

It did not heal : It may not have healed the first time. There could be a new infection. The first infection could not have been completely treated. As you can see there can be many reasons. You need to confer with your physician.
