A member asked:

Should a 20 month old be kept out of the wind with a ruptured ear drum? anything else other than cigarette smoke and loud noises to beware of?

No special care: The kid will heal under treatment regardless of exposure to wind. Smoke, fumes, fragrances, and dust all increase frequency of ear infections in infants.

Anything that hurts: If your child is ok in most situations there is little holding him/her back from anything. Cigarette smoke is always best to avoid regardless of ear drum status. I would also avoid water entering the ear and following with an otolaryngologist (ent).
