Doesnt work that way: It is common, but not right, to think of cancer stages (1, 2, 3, 4) as a progression 1->2->3->4. However, the more we learn about cancer the more we learn that some cancers may begin as stage III or IV - they can spread from the very beginning. In your case, stage 1 breast cancer, if completely removed, may never come back. There is no set time period in which we expect it to become stage 2.
