Ophthalmology: which is worst, wet or dry macular degeneration?

2 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Both bad: The dry form is the underpinning to both of these. Wet tends to occur a little younger and can cause a rapid drop in vision. With current injectable medication, much of wet can be reversed and prevented from advancing,. But the dry form underlies it and will carry forth at its own rate. So both are bad.

Wet vs dry macular: They are both bad, but each act differently. wet macular degeneration can cause a sudden dramatic loss of central vision, but has a treatment available to improve the vision if this happens. dry macular degeneration is slow and progressive central vision loss over years that is currently irreversible.
