Liver vsGall Bladder: While there are a number of possible causes for persistent upper abdominal pain, two of the more common causes of chronic or sub-acute right upper quadrant pain are symptomatic gall stone disease(cholelithiasis) and NASH(non-alcoholic steatohepatitis: "fatty liver hepatitis"). An abdominal ultrasound and hepatic profile lab test, plus exam of abdomen, help to establish the diagnosis.
