Little Risk: There have been no Hanta virus infections reported in NJ and only 5 cases reported in NY on 2014. The illness is much more common in the West, particularly South Western U. S. Risk is mainly from exposure to airborne virus in old dwellings from rodent excreta. So your risk is negligible .

Your risk is so low!: Between 1993 & JAN 2017 only 3 cases have been reported in NewYork per the CDC with none in New Jersey. In the US, 20–40 Hantavirus cases are reported annually. REF: https://www.cdc.gov/hantavirus/surveillance/reporting-state.html
