Alopecia: The correct diagnosis depends on several factors, including whether how quickly this bald patch has arisen. Localized areas of hair loss (alopecia) that arise in younger patients are often "alopecia areata," which can be caused by several underlying factors and, fortunately, is non-scarring and ultimately reversible in most patients.
