A member asked:

My vitamin d was 46 and range was 76-250 (insufficiency) doctor gave me 50000 iu vitamin d a week, how long does it usually take to get in the normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

To treat vitamin D deficiency: 50 000 IU vitamin D2 (Ergocalciferol in the US) once a week for 8 - 12 wks often attains a 25(OH)D concentration of ?75 nmol/L (30 ng/ml). To maintain vitamin D sufficiency, I usually recommend 50 000 IU vitamin D2 (or its equivalent in daily Vitamin D3- in US- Cholecalciferol) every 2- 4 wks will sustain Vitamin D concentrations above 75 nmol/L.
