A member asked:

Hi doctors. i had two vitamin d blood tests. the vitamin d 1,25 dihydroxy is 40, which i think is within normal range. the vitamin d, 25-oh, total,ia, is 24, which i think is insufficiency. which test matters more? do you think i need intervention?

Most clinicians use the 25 hyroxy vitamin D test to treat and monitor their patients. I find the medical literature confusing regarding the recommended blood level, however. I'm satisfied if the level is at least 30 as this gives a little latitude from the recommended level of 20 in case the accuracy is slightly off at the lab.
