Unusual: This is not a usual cause of back pain. I have heard of an overgrown bone in the back. You need to see an orthopedist for further evaluation. Best wishes.

Back pain in teens: The most common causes of low back pain in teens are not serious and can be treated non-operatively. Overgrown bone in the lower back can be from spinal stenosis, which is uncommon in teens. If this is present, surgery might be an option. Another cause of overgrown bone in the low back is partial fusion of the lumbar and sacral spine (Bertolotti's syndrome), which can also be treated with surgery.
