A member asked:

Is it common for the material from a herniated disc to be reabsorbed, eventually relieving pressure on the nerves?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Herniated disc: Yes, it is common for a herniated disc to be reabsorbed over 4-6 weeks after injury. Barring the "red flag" symptoms (new onset bowel/bladder dysfunction, groin numbness, significant weakness in ability to move the foot), many herniated disc problems will resolve over time without surgery. Still advise evaluation my healthcare provider, but initial non-operative treatment is usually recommended.
