GERD: zantac (ranitidine) helps keep stomach acid from entering and then subsequently causing damage to you esophagus. It is called GastroEsophageal Reflux Diesease or GERD. It can over time in some people lead to Barrett's esophagus which is a precancerous condition of the esophagus.
