Personal: For reasons that are not very well understood diff people respond diff to diff anti-inflammatories. While one person may get relief from one, another may get almost no benefit and relief from the other. As to why your pain alternates that is very diff to answer without more info, but often if we have pain we favor one side & overuse the other. As one side gets better the other hurts.

Nope: Naproxen is the same thing as Alleve and they both work like ibuprofen. The pain probably alternates because you favor one hip for a while putting pressure on the other one which then starts to hurt. Combine that with other problems which you may have - scoliosis, leg-length discrepancy, obesity, poor posture etc...and voila! Hip and back pain. See a chiropractor for some help.
