Pediatrician: If your son has no pain and has had no trauma sustained to the area, his pediatrician should be able to determine the cause of the protrusion. If necessary, he/she may order an x-ray of the area. If the problem seems more complicated, a pediatric orthopedic evaluation would be the next step.
