Rib fracture: If pain doesn't go away w/over-the-counter pain meds, then go see your Family Doc. Same if shortness of breath doesn't improve or even gets worse. You may need xrays to evaluate for broken rib(s) (http://goo.gl/OQVZbJ). We worry about potential for pneumothorax or collapsed lung. If this is consequence of partner abuse or domestic violence, please seek safety 1st. Then address w/local authorities.
