Lingual nerve damage: The lingual nerve is likely damaged or maybe severed. When wisdom teeth are extracted in the lower jaw this can happen on occasion if the nerve take a path very close to the tooth. If it is damaged it may take months to heal and may not heal completely. If it is severed then this problem will not go away. The meds prescribed are a vitamin (Thiamine) and a steroid (Dexona). Follow up care is needed

Transient Numbness: If the nerve damage is from pressure following surgery and the nerve hasn’t been severed then there is a pretty good chance that recovery will occur in 3-6 month. Magnesium, and B vitamins, especially Vitamin B1, B12 and Vitamin A are recommended. See your surgeon for more information.
