Can call Dr. today: If there is no good medical reason to avoid the vaccine, and if the son has not had chicken pox disease, he can get the vaccine today to help prevent catching the disease. That means an unvaccinated child can get the vaccine at the time he is exposed to the virus, as a way of preventing him from developing the disease. So, it's time to call the doctor.
