A member asked:

We have been treated for scabies. will lysol kill the mites on hard surfaces? also, once treated, how long do we need to change our bed linens daily?

Lysol ok: Once you have been treated, all linens , clothing, towels, etc that you may have used in the last 3 days need to be washed in hot water and dried in a hot dryer (both the hottest settings possible). If you can't wash something, seal it in a plastic bag for 7 days. Vacuum all rugs. Wiping down surfaces with Lysol is reasonable.

Lysol not effective: Scabies is a tough condition to treat since it infects close contacts with varying symptoms and tends to recur from decontamination of untreated people or fomites( infected house hold items). For this reason, simultaneous treatment of all potentially infected personnel is recommended, along with laundering of linen, clothing and towels etc in hot water cycle with each treatment cycle.
