Is it normal to grow large amounts of staph aureus in a sinus culture? have history of multiple sinus infections over past several years.

Staph: I would be concerned if this was truly a specimen obtained from a sinus cavity rather than simple colonization of staph in the nasal passage. If there is chronic infection of a paranasal sinus, surgery and or antibiotics which are effective against staph aureus would be needed. The results of the culture with sensitivities are key. I presume you are under the care of an otolaryngologist.

Common: Staph (?MRSA) and other organisms are usually present in chronic sinusitis, and most of the time it is partially treated, that's why it recurs. Cystic fibrosis patients do have staph colonization of their sinuses early in their lives, then other bugs take over, not your case. Treatment should be at least 4-6 weeks with appropriate dose of antibiotic(s), just follow your doctor's plan, best wishes
