Hi is it possible for the doctor to be wrong about the baby's gender?

Possible: Doctors are only people, and we are fallible just like anyone. Technology has developed to a point where there is a high likelihood that the sex of the baby is correctly identified however, so I wouldn't discount that the original identification is correct.
