Depends...: ...on whether the discoloration is darker or lighter than normal skin. (Both occur, hence the name "versicolor".) If you have light spots, a few days of moderate sun exposure should re-tan the lightened skin. If you have dark spots, you'll just have to wait for them to fade, which can take a month or more. And apply a good sunscreen every day to keep the sun from darkening the spots again.

Can be months.: The tinea infection prevents the sun from tanning the infected skin; therefore, once the fungal infection is cleared, one must wait for the next sun exposure to eliminate the lighter areas of infection.
