Go to ER: If you have throat swelling lasting more than 24 hours, you need to get this taken care of immediately since one does not know whether this may progress further. If this has been a recurrent problem then you will need to consider a condition called hereditary angioedema which can be life-threatening. Throat swelling caused by allergies usually subsides in less than 24 hrs.
