A member asked:

Is masturbation normal during puberty and will it delay puberty ?

Yes and No: Normal men, women, boys, and girls masturbate (it's universal). It isn't harmful, as the body goes through similar effects during regular sex with a partner (but too much of anything may become a problem). Masturbation does not stunt height, cause hair loss or gray hair, make you weak, create heart problems, lower testosterone, affect virginity, lower fertility, change your weight, or damage eyes.

Yes/no: Because of a variety of cultural taboos, it is hard to get reliable information on the practice. It appears to be universal, for at least part of the life of both genders. When it does not interfere with the normal development of peer interaction, there is no harm done.It does not interfere with physical growth or development.
