I have been on loestrin for a little over a month and a half. i finished up bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) about two weeks ago. is my loestrin effective against pregnancy?

Yes if taken: Loestrin is a brand name for a BCP. And if taken according to the directions is a very effective contraceptive. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is a combination of two "sulfa" antibiotics and has nothing to do with the BCP.
