Not necessarily: If the toenail is embedded in the nail fold it's possible to redirect its growth so it doesn't do so soaking the toe in warm water for 20-30 minutes 3-4 times a day and insert some cotton under the edge of the nail to lift it up. If this doesn't solve the problem and the nail becomes painful, surgical removal of the ingrown part can be done. SEE>http://bit.ly/1gxJnb7 and http://bit.ly/1mK15ef

Look at the toe bone: There are other reasons for a toe to hurt other than an ingrown toenail, especially when there are no clinical signs of it being ingrown. An exostosis or bone spur is sometimes present on the distal phalanx. Known as a subungual exostosis, It can cause toe pain when pressure is applied to the toe. Recommend you see a foot specialist to remove all doubt.
