A member asked:

I'm getting an iud replacement tonight, and have severe anxiety about the pain. is it safe for me to take .5 mg xanax (alprazolam) and a 5/300 vicodin at once? i do have prescriptions for both, but have never taken them at the same time.

Not needed: An IUD removal and insertion is a simple easy procedure. In most cases it should be pain free or only mild discomfort. Pain medication and anxiety medication are not needed. Also there should not be used unless directed by your doctor.

Yes: There is no drug interaction between the two drugs but you report that are very anxious about the potential pain you might have to go thru. Being a man I can't report on any personal experience. However if it is generally a very unpleasant painful experience I cannot imagine that they would have stayed around as long as they have. Talk to your OB about your fears.
