A member asked:

After pulling a ingrown hair out, why is the hard lump still there? it's not painful at all to touch just feels like a soft/hard lump that's long?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Details matter: Where on your body? How large? How long? Every hair has an associated oil gland secreting sebum. An ingrown hair may have a blocked oil gland at it's root which may form a pocket (cyst) of sebum. There may also be residual swelling, inflammation which can subside over a week or 2. If you are concerned, a dermatologist can easily take care of it.
