1 day: There are specific amounts and times for each type of herpes infection we can get. These range from 500-1000mg from one day to 10 days from once to three times a day. For cold sores, the official dose to decrease the intensity and duration of the outbreak is 2000mg twice a day for one day. Of course, you can add advil (ibuprofen) 800mg three times a day to help with the pain and swelling.
