It can soothe it: The longer term method of treatment is Lysine 500 mg a day. Check also with your dentist regularly.

Possible: You can overdo it with the oragel and actually cause more irritation. A safer use is baby oragel and only when you really need it. Warm salt water rinses are a big help (1tsp/8oz water). Good Luck.

Canker sore: Oragel will make it feels better, less pain, but it will not effect healing. It will still take 7-10 days for a canker sore to heal.

Won't hurt: This is something to numb the gum and reduce pain. No effect on healing. l-Lysine is an amino acid present in most foods. It has no medicinal value at any dose. In lab cultures, increasing lysine while lowering arginine will inhibit herpes viruses somewhat. But you cannot alter these amino acids inside your cells by any diet or pill. They are fixed. Aphthae (cankers) are NOT herpes anyway.

No: However, using a topical agent with a mild anesthetic, like Orajel, will help decrease the pain, but will not decrease the time the healing.
