Stop Smoking: Cotinine is a newer better way way to test for smokers. You can try to beat the test by drinking plenty of water, but this will usually get picked up and you will be asked to be retested without excessive fluid intake prior. The nicotine byproduct has a variable detection period in people and may last a week in your body fluids. If you can stop smoking that long, you may as well quit!
