Non-specific: Colorectal cancer symptoms are non-specific. Patients may present with bloody stools, unexplained weight loss, and/or decreased appetite, while some patients may experience no symptoms at all. The most important aspect of colon cancer is early diagnosis with screening colonoscopies. Screening should begin at age 50, or sooner if there is high-risk for developing disease.

Obstruction: When colon cancer begins within the lumen of the bowel it is classified as Dukes A. Pprogressing thru the muscular layer it reaches the outer coat of bowel or serosa (DukesC) then spreading to regional nodes. Mets then appear. In the bowel the lesion grows, can bleed, then occupy the lumen to begin obstruction with pain then distention and eventual blockage with regurgitation .
