Follicular lyphoma: Generally, follicular lymphoma in the GI tract is treated with surgical resection plus adjuvant chemotherapy. This of course depends on the stage and grade. If it is a solitary lesion in the terminal ileum, surgical resection +/- chemo has very good results.

The disease : Will need to be fully staged. Indolent lymphoma may or may not require therapy at the time of diagnosis. Options for treatment include immunotherapy alone ie rituxan, (rituximab) immunochemotherapy, radio immunotherapy and other aggressive regimens including stem cell transplant. So all the way from no treatment to very aggressive options. Have your friend get more than one opinion.

Depends on the stage: Follicular lymphoma at a single site in the body is called stage one disease and can be treated with radiotherapy alone. If the lymphoma is at multiple sites it is considered advanced stage and can either be observed or treated with chemoimmunotherapy.

Cancer 1-2-3: 1) Diagnosis -- confirm, 2) Prognosis (FLIPI) and Stage -- if in GI tract likely stage IV, 3) Treatment -- "depends" on multiple factors. In general FL is not curable, so treatment is individualized for the patient and tumor factors.
