My friend was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma. the dr. said because its aggressive its curable. i have read its just treatable. please explain.

Follicular nhl: Follicular lymphoma is a treatable disease. It is considered to be indolent dz.- it sometimes can transform into more aggressive lymphoma like the diffuse large b cell lymphoma. It is very sensitive to chemo as well as radiation therapy. However, due to the indolent /less agressiveness of disease, eventhough the response to therapy is very high however the risk for recurrence remains there.

True but unintuitive: Lymphomas are tricky to fully understand for both patients as well as most docs including oncologists. Not only are there many types but there are many different naming systems as well. Simply there is indolent and aggressive. And each can be early or advanced stage. The indolent ones are less curable and likewise less aggressive. The faster the cells divide the more sensitive they are to tx.

Depends: Depends on grade. If a grade 3b, meaning predominance of centroblasts, it is possible to be curable. You are correct in saying treatable because most follicular lymphomas are grade 1 and 2. Hope this helps.
