A member asked:

What happens if you accidentally inhale a solid particle, like some grains of sand or tiny glass particles, if they get into your lungs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Inhalation: of foreign particle. The lung will coat it with mucous and should expel it. If it is to large it may become calcified and stay in the lung tissue walked off from the rest of the tissue. We sometimes see these small calcifications on X-rays of the lung.
