Few days: Avoid eating spicy foods and acidic foods and keep your mouth as clean as possible. It should be OK in a few days.

Gums heal, but...: It will be sore for a few days but will heal. You may want to ease up on the force you're placing on that toothbrush. If you push to hard the bristles don't clean well and you can cause gum recession and toothbrush abrasion of your teeth. Remember, it is the tip of the bristles that sweep plaque away, gentle circular strokes is all it takes.
