Plain Cool Water.: The chemical that kills the root causes a chemical burn that takes time to heal. If the surface wound heals faster than the root burn, there is a possibility that the drainage from the burn will remain trapped. This can be red and swollen, not necessarily infected. Soaking the toe in PLAIN cool water sometimes loosens the dried crust and allows the wound to drain. If not , call your doctor.
