Hi i started off on some prednisone for a severe case of contact dermatitis but was just prescribed medrol (methylprednisolone) as a refill, is this an acceptable replacement?

Yes it id: Yes it is Mrdrol is Methylprednisolone and comes as a pack which gives directions in reducing doses to the end and is quite popular with some physicians as a subsititutied to Prednisone.It is convenient as it is pack for short course but is only use for acute contact Dermatitis if severe as most of the time for a mild case topical cream may be enough. And you should avoid what causing it

Similar: The two drugs are very similar with Medrol (methylprednisolone) presumably causing slightly less sodium retention. However, oral steroid should not be used as chronic Rx for contact dermatitis , avoidance is . If the problem persists despite avoidance of a known contact allergen, you need to see a dermatologist to look for another Dx.
