See comments : In an otherwise healthy 31 year old person a pounding or racing heart lasting several minutes usually doesn't signify a serious underlying heart disorder. For various reasons it's not uncommon in young adults.Occasionally it can be triggered by fatigue, stress or caffeine. However if it occurs frequently or is associated with other symptoms then you must see a physician for evaluation.
