Pancreatitis: Amylase and lipase are typically checked in patients with abdominal pain suggesting pancreatitis and they are typically elevated in patients with acute pancreatitis. However, in patients with chronic pancreatitis normal levels of above enzymes do not rule out the pancreas as possible source for the pain.
