Aortic aneurysm : Widening or ballooning of the aorta may occur due to high BP, genetics, tobacco use, prior injury, etc. As the aortic diameter increases, the chance of the lining splitting increases, causing pain and possible rupture with death if not addressed quickly. Beta-blockers are added and size is checked by ultrasound or other imaging test. A stent or surgical repair is done when it exceeds 40 to 45 mm.
