A member asked:

Can folliculitis or acne on the scalp cause hair loss? is there a difference between them? the only thing they respond to is 10% benzoyl peroxide.

Folliculitis/acne: folliculitis and acne may both become infected by bacterial contamination. The benzoyl peroxide will help for acne; however, the folliculitis may require both antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medication.

BrightSideOfPeroxide: Well, think about it a second.Folliculitis is an inflammation or infection of the hair follicle, which is the generation point of the hair.So it follows that the hair could fall out and fail to regenerate or at least markedly slow-up growth of the hair until the problem is taken care of. Acne is also an "infection" starting in the hair follicles and other skin glands so, Voila! An unhappy follicle
